The structure of this study is eight weeks of homework where you learn all kinds of facts about James. For those of you who don’t you are in for a treat. For those of you who know Beth Moore, you know what to expect in one of her studies. For this study her daughter Melissa helped write the study. Last August we started a bible study on James one of the books of the bible. Ultimately she reveals the man and the vision and how his words and his work in the early Church have influences well into today. She walks us through the deep Jewish background of James and how he combines that with an even deeper level of compassion and mercy to all around him. There isn't a ton of historical information, but what there is is very intriguing.īeth Moore takes what can be a controversial book of the Bible, which many people struggle with as it seems at first glance to contradict a lot of Paul's writings, and takes us through James' heart, why he felt strongly for the poor and why actions and living out faith were so important to him. She goes through what Scripture says about him and also includes what historians and even legends have to say about the eldest half-brother of Jesus. This study looks at not only the words in the letter of James, but his life and the life of the early Jerusalem church, particularly the Jewish contingent. Well, I really like it when ANYONE does that, but she has such a knack for putting together not just the book, but also the details of the person who wrote it or the historical significance of the group of people involved in the time period. I really love Beth Moore's studies of an entire book of the Bible. I didn't "read" so much as "complete" this one, but there's still a lot of reading material to it. The key question: what will I do with what I've learned NOW? How will I go forward? What will stick? It's a powerful message, one to ponder on long after the back cover closes. Altogether, I think both experiences have given me a more perfect understanding of the entire message of the book-and life story-of James. ![]() In this case, the themes of looking out for others, for DOING (or NOT doing, as the case may be) rather than just thinking or talking, cleansing my thoughts, focusing on eternal things, are what most drew me in. This time, I got the opportunity to do it while in the best time of my life thus far, having walked through the painful season and looking back on the very benefits that I was looking forward to the first time. The first time was during the most painful experience of my life to date, when the themes of seeing joys within suffering and seeking God above all else spoke the most to me. I was blessed enough to go through this study twice, in two very different times in my life, which gave me different perspective. This section is written in collaboration with Beth's daughter Melissa. Level 4: Watch the video sessions, do the homework each week, write out the Book of James, and complete the "What could I do to go deeper?" section each week. Level 3: Watch the video sessions, do the homework each week, and, as you study, write out the entire Book of James. Level 2: Watch the video sessions and do the homework each week. In other ways, James more closely resembles the Book of Proverbs than any other New Testament book. Bible scholars compare James to the prophet Amos. See how one glimpse of the resurrected Savior turned an unbeliever into a disciple. James, Jesus' own brother, started out as a skeptic. Your free trial comes with a copy of our step-by-step Leader's Guide to accompany The Book of James series.James: Mercy Triumphs - Member Book by Beth Moore provides a personal study experience five days a week plus viewer guides for the 8 video sessions of this in-depth women's Bible study. James writes to believers who know suffering, who've faced trials, and who ultimately desire a deep relationship with God. The book of James speaks to the realities of a living faith in Jesus-the kind of roll-up-your-sleeves and get-your-hands-dirty discipleship that is borne out of an authentic relationship with the risen Lord. A faith without action and without life change is ultimately a dead faith. ![]()
